Validated emotional intelligence tests include:
SEI the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment: Focused on development and learning, the SEI is a comprehensive, insightful, and practical online assessment of emotional intelligence. Written by our educators, the SEI is unique in its focus on practical steps for implementing and improving emotional intelligence in work and life. The only measure based on Six Seconds' EQ-in-action model, the SEI includes an extensive report with numerous suggestions for EQ development. Leadership, Strengths, Development, Group Reports available (download a PDF) (See more details on SEI).
MSCEIT: The only "ability measure" of emotional intelligence was created by the leading scientists in the field, John Mayer and Peter Salovey together with David Caruso. The MSCEIT involves "puzzles" that require takers to actually use their emotional intelligence. We use this tool for people who have a serious interest in EQ and want to understand their core abilities.
EQ Map®: See strengths and vulnerabilities in a clear, graphical "landscape." A self-report measure, the EQ Map is particularly effective for coaching and team development. The unique features of this tool are the breadth of the 20 scales and the "map" result that may encourage more open discussion than is typical in a "test."
Emotional Intelligence Appraisal: This quick, highly focused tool gives a measure of EQ using Daniel Goleman's "four quadrant" model. The "Multi-Rater" version allows an individual to see how her/his self-perception is like and different from others' perceptions, which is excellent for individual development. The Team Edition creates a picture of how the group is functioning, which serves team development needs. All editions include an e-learning program that can reinforce concepts developed via in-person training.
EQ-i®: One of the most widely used self-report assessments, the EQ-i provides an insightful understanding of behavior through Reuven BarOn's 5-part model of emotional intelligence. This tool is sometimes used as a hiring screening, and often used in research projects like the Star Performer Profiling offered by the Institute.
ECI®: Using Goleman's 4-quadrant model (awareness of self and others, management of self and others), the ECI measures a spectrum of critical competencies shown to affect workplace performance. The ECI is a "multi-rater" so the test-taker receives feedback from several people.
